Hello

Dougit Design is a one-person design studio in sunny Tucson, Arizona providing both web and print visual design. I am Doug Aghassi, and this website is my digital playground, my soapbox and my portfolio.

Delivering a fresh look to interface design—original yet clean, unique yet straightforward. Anything from an iOS app icon to complete websites, and everything in-between, Dougit Design provides solutions.

Most projects at Dougit Design, whether screen or print based, typically progress through 3 stages of developmentplan, design and technical build.

Plan» In this phase needs can be discussed, solutions suggested, and quotes/estimates can be generated. A Website—how many pages, need hosting? iPhone App—just the icon, or complete interface? Printed Poster—what quantity, 4/C process or spot color? This stage can be as quick as a couple of emails. For websites over 5 pages, or other complex projects, this stage can be a complete, analysis and information architecture process with much back and forth communication including wireframes, and/or prototypes—structural outlines are agreed upon here.

Design» This is the actual look and feel. Using the knowledge gained from the planning stage, a conceptual visual design that best suits the needs of the project will be created. Depending on the type of design, any of the following tools will be used: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash /Catalyst, or Acrobat Pro; also, Nikon Cameras, Sigma Lenses, QuarkXPress or any desktop productivity apps, if needed. At this stage client deliverables would consist of all the files needed to output the visual design—usually Photoshop files (.psd), Illustrator files (.ai), .png files and or Adobe Acrobat files (.pdf).

Build» For website design this stage consists of transforming a visual Photoshop design into a functional, cross-platform tested, front-end using technologies like .HTML, CSS, JavaScript and WordPress. I focus on standards-based development for modern web browsers. Client deliverables, in addition to all visual design files, would include all files necessary to produce a functional front-end site, including html, CSS, js (JavaScript), swf (Flash), jpg, png, php and sql (database) files. If needed, this process can include assistance with actual site launch, domain name purchase, SEO (search engine optimization) and website maintenance. For print design this stage consists of converting that brochure produced with InDesign or QuarkXpress into 10,000 Four-Color with a spot-varnish, accordion-folded, press-checked, actual printed pieces, shipped.
